ACTOR Benedict Cumberbatch will appear on stage at the Barbican in the City of London next year, it’s been announced.
The Sherlock Holmes actor will play Hamlet in the Shakespeare play in a run between August and October 2015.
Cumberbatch told the Telegraph in 2012 that the role of Hamlet was one “I’ve been interested in for a long time.”
Sonia Friedman Productions will produce the show and Lyndsey Turner will direct it.
Booking details will be announced by the Barbican in May this year. As well as a theatre with a capacity of over 1100, the Barbican Centre in Silk Street is home to a performance hall, galleries, restaurants and conference halls.
