PARTS of the City of London was brought to a standstill yesterday when a car was left abandoned in the road outside the Bank of England.
A massive security alert was sparked when the driver of a dark green Toyota Avensis simply got out of the car in the middle of the road and entered Bank underground station.
Roads were closed to traffic and the area sealed off as a bomb disposal robot was deployed to check the car.
The scene was declared safe at around 1pm while City police began hunting for the driver.
Friday afternoon update: The Evening Standard has reported that a man arrested by the Met in relation to other matters will be questioned about this incident by City Police.
